Rossite Trivia (http://my.funtrivia.com/tournament/Daily-Trivia-for-Rossites-43698.html)
I think it's time for some changes, so unless anyone has any objections, I'm going to change the categories to a different one for every day of the week, starting with tomorrow for the beginning of the June Contest ... we've been playing the same game every day for a long long time ...
I can't stay up until midnight to do it, but I'll make the change later today, after most of the regular players from this month have had an opportunity to complete today's questions.
If anyone has any category suggestions or any other suggestions, please post them ... I'll check this thread again before I make the changes ...

Oh, Blue! I can barely get points for what we're doing! Please don't make them expert or anything like that, okay? Otherwise, I'll REALLY feel like an idiot.
Those soccer questions kill me.
drat i woulda had ten if i'd not changed one of my answers...
- what's the question you're asking kazoo (i'm half alseep) um anyway i like history and current events / politics...

I just played, and I hate the soccer questions, too, Tek!
Kim, I'm just thinking about changing it so we play a different category on Monday than on Tuesday, and so forth ... I think I can only set it up to pick 7 different categories so for a month every Monday would have the same category, yada yada ...
I'm not looking to make it any harder ... what I'm going to try for is a better mix of hard and easy, in different topics -- we've kind of run the gamut on the mixed bag category, and depending on how many different contests we play in, we've seen the majority of the questions over and over again ...
So, hypothetically, maybe Sunday would be 'religion', Monday would be 'geography', Tuesday would be something else ... at varying levels of difficulties from 'easy' to 'challenging' ... Monday might be 'easy religion', Tuesday might be 'intermediate geography' ... there's lots of categories to choose from ...
Anyway, we can try it for June and see if we like it?
I'm thinking it might be more fun if we all got the same questions each day, as well ... currently it's set up so that the questions I got today are not the same ones that you guys would have received ... wouldn't it be more interesting if we knew we were all getting the same questions? or is it better the way it is now?

wouldn't it be more interesting if we knew we were all getting the same questions?
I think so. I didn't know it was set for different questions.
I like the idea of different categories. :)
- altho i like the idea of everybody getting the same set of questions what if cheaters (omgoodness who here would cheat and lol like it matters a whole lot really) fed the answers to other people (cheaters every one hahaha) before hand i mean heck it could lead to total trivia madness...
*
p.s. it was pointed out to me by another frequent winner (i'll never tell who lol) here long ago that after awhile if we play long enough we get the same questions eventually anyway...

Yeah, and he was right at the time, kim ... but they've added to the pool in 'mixed bag' and it's now over 100,000 questions ... that makes it a lot later than sooner, actually, for us all to get the same questions and it certainly wouldn't be in the same month ...
I've thought about the cheating aspect, I don't think players would help other players ... and if they did, oh well ... hollow victory for them, I suppose ... kind of like peeking at your Christmas presents on the 15th of December ... it's just a freaking trivia game ... supposed to be fun, after all ... it's not a blood sport (unlike chat-trivia which IS a blood sport, and will hopefully return in the near future) ...
Gotta get back to watching the DNC RBC meetings ... :2poof:
p.p.s. my brother bill is such a cheater i'm really good at playing cards and usually other games too he used to annoy me so much he cheats like crazy i still usually can beat him anyway tho...
*
- lol oh i missed ya there kazoo well heck i couldn't ever keep track what a silly thing...
p.s. keep us updated on the meeting if anything big is decided okay (?) thanks...

by now you probably know it's all over but the shouting, kim ...
I think it went well, at least it's over, or might be -- depending on what she decides to do during endgame ...
:)
- yep...
p.s. (smiling cuz i think all will be well)...
p.s. yay countryroad...!

Okay, here's what I've done ...
Categories are all at the intermediate/more difficult level -- not the easiest and not the hardest ... some of them at the 'easy' level only had a couple hundred questions, so I tried to work with categories that held around a minimum of 1000 questions ...
Sunday - Religion
Monday - People
Tuesday - Music
Wednesday - Geography
Thursday - History
Friday - World Trivia
Saturday - Mixed bag (same category as we have now)
I've set it so we each work the SAME questions on any given day ... more like a real trivia challenge ...
I'll follow the comments in this thread and if there is a consensus that it's too easy or too hard, we can adjust it accordingly ...
:2poof:
yay...!
p.s. okay kazoo i'm half asleep and half drunk so whatever you say ummm hey i already said yay...!

I always thought we got the same questions, anyway. Who knew?
Geography...I shouldn't even show up. People, too, if it's celebs. Oh, boy. This is gonna be difficult. I'll aim for next-to-last place. :)

That religion category kicks my ass every time...I must be a heathen.:i-roller:

Country, the Religion category has some of the most difficult questions I've ever seen, and I started out in college as a theology/philo major! Today's was an ass burner.

Yeah, that one was tough. It's been a while since I read the OT, and those were the ones I got wrong.
I am surprised I got some of the other's right; I was guessing! lol

07-13-2008, 04:04 PM
well one thing for sure, it's not a matter of 'everybody gets a ten and who was fastest' anymore, lol ...
anybody want it modified for august, just post your suggestions ... we can do it anyway ya want ...

I should follow my instincts more often. :D

Geography trivia? Good grief! That isn't even stuff you learn in geography class. I get an "F".

I didn't even open it...geography. I'm lucky if I can find my way into Minneapolis. (Keep me on the St. Paul side, and I can get anywhere...Minneapolis, I'm lost almost immediately without step by step instructions on where to turn and which way.)

Naw... this wasn't anything like that. This was which 1000 year old cathedral blah-blah, and where was the blah-blah manufacturing plant in Canada located, and what the capitol of the blah-blah province in some unidentified country in Europe. Actually I can't even remember the questions because most of them had so little meaning in my brain. I mean come on.
I got 4 out of 10, and one of those only because it was Biblical. I'm waiting for Sunday to come around then I'll see if I can do better.
But where is science? Don't we get a science day?

Geography... I love it. If I had thought about it a bit more, I would have got another one. Stupid mistake.

We can add a science day ... what category should we replace with science for next month?

I hate sports.... I never know any of the sports stuff....
bluekazoo
07-16-2008, 11:19 AM
Well tho it may SEEM like every day is sports ? day, we aren't using a sports category this month ... here's the way it's set up right now:
Sunday - Religion
Monday - People
Tuesday - Music
Wednesday - Geography
Thursday - History
Friday - World Trivia
Saturday - Mixed bag (same category as we used to have every day - there is 'some' sports in here)
Shall we ditch Mixed Bag starting August 1st and change it to Science?

Blue, I was just thinking about that myself, that a medicine and science category would be cool. Since I'm terrible at geography, naturally I'd want that to go. But just like science and medicine, geography is a subject everyone should know something about. It's a learning experience as well as a testing of trivia knowledge experience, you know what I mean? I always read the correct answers to learn something, although I never remember them for the next time they're asked.
terriv, I got "Ur" right, too. The Canadian headquarters of GM seemed to be a crazy question. I mean, really! :1chirol1:

Where are the trivia questions located at? How do I get in?
bluekazoo
07-16-2008, 01:25 PM
Pi, the link is in the OP in this thread ... just register your name and you're in ...
Everybody's welcome ... (if you play other funtrivia games, you still have to register for each different contest you participate in - you should be able to use the same name, tho, or a variation of it, ie: TRSpiinthesky or something)
Guys, keep yakking about the subjects, we'll come up with some variation if you want for next month ... we'll never make everybody happy, but we can shoot for the best mix ...
:)

Hey, whatever you guys want to do is fine with me ... check the list in an earlier post and pick one to change and we'll change it, Tek ...
I'll check back later tonight and make the change before I go to bed ...

The religion one today about killed me. GACK!! And you got 10!!!
Guess I'm going to hell.
I can't choose one to eliminate. I'll just toss out Music and Geography as possibles. I'd like to keep the one Mixed Bag we have now, I think. Just because you never know what's coming.
And slot in Science, I guess. General science, though; not physics. Lord.
bluekazoo
08-04-2008, 07:26 PM
I found you some Science, tek ...
I mixed it up a little bit ... we can tweak it some more as we go along, if anybody thinks of anything else they'd like to try .. :)
tekobari
08-04-2008, 09:48 PM
Oh, yay! I'm not very good at science; I'm fairly good at medicine. But we really should have some to be balanced.
If there are physics and chem questions all the time, I'm doomed.

Has anyone else ever gotten two??

Blue, I had a really hard time with the game today. There were so many pop ups, I could barely see the questions. I'd try to close one, and another would pop up in its place. They all seemed to be for screensavers.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Tek, I hadn't played trivia since the move, but I regained my password and ran through it after I saw this.
I've got massive spy blocker software on my machine, but I did see where castelmedia was trying to load.
Get thee to Major Geeks (http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html) and download SpyBot and Spyware Blaster! Install, update and run those puppies! Something got in, and I promise you don't want it.
BTW, my kid swears by Spyware Doctor. I haven't used it myself, but it comes highly rated.

Thanks, Kris. I have two pop-up washers, one of which has served me well over the years (Webroot) and which I update frequently. But these bypassed it. I'll check out your recommendations for sure. I don't want any "visitors."
I'm just shocked it happened with trivia. It never happened before.

Ross, Blue has taken us up to Level 2 on some of the categories. You'll see that sometimes the highest scores are 5 or 6.
She's trying to kill us!
bluekazoo
11-04-2008, 12:39 PM
tek, there was a glitch that they've fixed ...
are you still getting the weird pop-up stuff?
If you are, I'll contact them again about it but it's my understanding that it's been fixed ...
and I believe the more accurate term would be 'challenge' ... as opposed to the rather poor choice of 'kill' ... :butt:

Boy, I had a chance to come in second...dare I say even first??...this month, and my computer died on me. Now I'm three days behind.
Phooey!
And Kazooey, you're definitely trying to kill us!! Challenge, indeed. Harumph! :1jester:

I suck at geography, and I only missed one! Obviously, the intuition is working well today.

Kris, the geography was hard. hard. She makes them level two to torture us.
She's a dangerous person.
bluekazoo
11-26-2008, 09:31 AM
Well I could make them all level 1, and then it would just be a speed contest ... but where would the fun be in THAT???? You guys would get soooooo bored ...
I was contemplating a few level 3's next month ...
