If, by some incredible miracle of fate, you held the winning Powerball ticket, what would you do with it?

Even at the start of a jackpot, it's $30 million. That's more than I'll see in my lifetime. Uncle Sam would get half of it right off the top, because there is the bailout to pay for.

That still leaves a nice piece of change.

What would you do with it?

I would move to the Carolinas, near the ocean, and help my family. Then I would start a shelter or reserve for dogs and cats that need special care or a second chance. My brother and SIL would probably want to start a place for abandoned horses and we could do that - possibly to include the wild mustangs that the BLM wants to kill.

I'm sure there is more...........

We are of like mind Lakelady. I'd move, somewhere further south, but in the mountains. I'd set my kids up for life, and my kids' kids. I'd make sure my Step-Mother was taken care of and my Grandmother if she is still with us.

Then I'd take on a shelter for animals. Devote my time, energy and money into that. I'd probably also like to take on an apartment building and do something for the homeless or for battered women. A second chance kind of thing. Those are my passions. I know what it's like to be a battered wife and thrown out with nothing but the clothes on your back. It's scary and hard, raising a kid by yourself. I proved I could do it though and I did it all on my own.

Oh, this is fun to think about ...

We would retire immediately. DH could work a little part-time gig if he chose to, but I would stop working. If I got board, I'd volunteer somewhere.

I would set up a trust fund for my daughter and my grandson.

I would set aside an amount for a monthly annuity to supplement my mother's retirement income for the rest of her life.

I would do the same for my sister and if DH wants to, we could set up a trust for his sister.

I would give a portion of it to a handful of charities that I support.

I would set up a separate fund with a chunk of it, to be used here and there for people that I know when they run into tight times.

I would buy a home again in our beloved (and much missed) San Diego, live in it until we're ready to move back to WI and then spend our winters in SD, summers in WI.

DH could travel more.

I would spend more time with my mother and sister.

The rest would be saved, and spent over time ... anything leftover would go to DD when we're gone.

There's really absolutely nothing that I want except to retire - and to spend more time with family members. So the above plan would take care of it all, and give DH (who has a much bigger travelbug than I do) the chance to see more of the world.

I'd probably have to share it with the ex, because we're still married. That still leaves me a happy amount.

First thing? I'd get myself a different car. Not brand new; but the thrill of being able to buy a car I like rather than settling for a car I can afford would be just surreal.

I would pay off my brother's mortgage. I might even pay off the other brother's mortgage, even though we haven't talked to each other in like three years.

I'd buy myself a house in town, and retrieve my dog from the ex.

I'd do some traveling. I'd take my kids home to Albuquerque for the Balloon Fiesta the next October, and to visit the graves that no one is there to visit. I'd take them to Disney World, too. lol

I'd get both kids braces, as well as myself. Then I'd have my teeth capped so they would be white! (Too bad they didn't know in the 60s that giving Tetracycline to toddlers would discolors the adult teeth.)

And I'd stash a nice chunk of it away. But NOT in the stock market!

DW and I like to do this all the time, the part we haven't figured out is how we'll win as neither of us ever buy lottery tickets.

Its hard to wrap your mind around it, when you've never lived that way.

If I didn't leave Sask. completely I would become a snowbird.

DW says she would luv the challenge of designing a new home, after making sure my basement hide away had all the toys, I would probably leave her to it.

We both luv to eat, but hate to cook so we would have to hire some serious household staff, including a personal trainer so I don't get huge.

i'd buy a condo for us / a house for son billy and family / another house for son david...

invest in wind and solar power and sugar beet / alternative fuel...

invest in refurbishing the railroad system...

branch off from our worker owned cab cooperative business / start a new worker owned software cooperative business...

invest in worker owned cooperative business education...

go back to school get a law degree...

- save some / a little / enough to live on (we could live very comfortably with about $20,000 additional annually)...

I'd have to hire someone to run the shelters and reserves while we travel.

Maybe one of those huge shiney motorhomes and we could see the whole country, staying as long as we wished wherever we liked. Sick of showering in the MH - pull into a motel. Doesn't matter that the thing won't fit through McDonald's drive-thu, no more fast food crap for us.

But, as Doofy said, we'd have to buy tickets first.

I always remember an interview with an old guy that won a million.

He said his wife wants a new dress, and that he was thinking about buying a new truck.

I would get a new vehicle but don't know what it would be.

I've always wanted a BMW, I got to drive one many moons ago. I was totally amazed at how quiet and smooth it was.

I find the new models to be boxy, so I'm not sure if I would still buy one.

Theres a mediterrainean cruise we always look at, its more money than we could afford and longer than we can get time off.

If I won big money it would defenitly be happening.

I've always wanted to see Hong Kong harbour.

I want to go deep sea fishing.

I want to go to Vegas and be able to afford to see all the shows.

I would take DW to the grand old opry and pay whatever I had to, to get her front row seats.

I would find somewhere in the world where phil collins is playing and be there.

If I really hit it big, I would get a house engineered in the side of a valley where there was constant running water, wildlife and no people.

Oh the things I would do if I only had money.

Our travel agent told us of a lady that saved her whole life and when she retired took a year long cruise, can you imagine?

Now to the bad part, we would take care of all the immediate family, but it wouldn't be enough.

We both have family members that would never be happy with what we gave them, could never be excited with the things we did.

If we won a lot of money we would probably not see much of our families ever again.

Farm.
Hip boots covered with cow poo for everyone!

Seriously, I really would grow food for the community, teach the poor how to live and feed themselves sustainably. Start a co-op/school for women with children to learn to make items with a system in place to sell them world-wide. Like the Appalachian woman co-op does.

Make and teach herbal medicine. Feed em, heal em, teach em not to poke each other in the eyes with sticks.

or not.
I might just buy an estate with hardened security, be queen, and say fuck you to all the creeps out there.
