Is anyone else buying old tv shows on dvd?

So far I've got mary tyler moore, white shadow, miami vice, bl stryker, maude, sanford and son, and I can't remember the others.

I want to get benson, taxi, the equalizer, baretta, and if I can find the right deal dukes of hazzard.

It has to be the right deal so I can tell DW I bought it because of that, and not Daisy duke.

I'd like to have the thirtysomething series. I don't know whether it's even available on DVD. I've never seen it offered anywhere.

Dragnet

I think I have the whole series from 67-70, but I would like to get the original one that ran from 51-59, but I'm not sure it is even available

One that I haven't seen yet is maverick with James Garner.

I didn't like the movie.

I bet I've never even watched 5% of the DVD's that I've bought. Now if I want to see something I D/L it, watch it on the computer and delete it.

I want to get "Three's Company" on DVD soon....anyone remember the episode when Janet thought Jacks girlfriend was a hooker when she was really a sex therapist? I almost pissed my pants when Janet was handed the business card and Janet said "I cant believe you even have a card for that!!!!" She pronounced therapist as "the rapist". :)

doofy, which season of Maude is available? Or are they all in one set?

I've only bought HBO series I'm nuts for. And I've watched them all except "The Sopranos," which I'm saving for hospital recuperation.

"Big Love," "The Wire," "Deadwood" and "Oz." I hadn't seen "The Wire," and "Oz" when they were on, so those were new to me. And worth every cent I paid for them. Great shows.

Meya Barney Miller is out there, I got the first season for it at walmart as well.

DW tries to steer me away from the movie section but it just doesn't happen.

I can't believe I forgot that I've got Night Court.

I luv that show, I've got the first season and wish they would put out more.

The Wire could be my fave show of all time and Omar is the best character in TV history IMO.

I wouldn't mind having The Lonesome Dove original series, with Tommy Lee Jones.

I like the PBS ' British comedies --
Are You Being Served (I have most of them)
Faulty Towers (I think I have all of them)
To The Manner Born (all of them)
Keeping Up Appearances ( I have several that weren't brodcasted here and a few others)
And of course the American best comedy of all times - I Love Lucy
Daughter taped all the early Doctor Who episodes for us..love them. And its fun to watch for all the really crude special effects!

Husband also bought us all of John Waynes EARLY movies,,,wow, how funny they are!!

Did you know Frasier was on for 11 seasons?

I hated that show, but DW liked it.

I wonder what the longest running show is.

Doofy

How many seasons was Star Trek?

I think it might be the longest running show.

Here's the list I found, although Wikipedia isn't a great source. I was surprised at most of them. Soap operas must really be popular. Since many of them started on radio, too, I wonder how long they've really had listeners?

I was way out.

Gunsmoke 20 years

Simpsons 19 years

I never even found Star Trek.

I remember that! DH and I were talking the other night about test patterns and getting up early on Saturday mornings as little kids, watching the test patterns, waiting for "Mighty Mouse" which was always the first show on Saturday mornings ... at night, there was a sign-off, too - and a voice saying: that concludes our broadcast day.

I remember 15-minute soap operas too.

Do you remember the scary Civil Defense Tests? I was a latchkey kid and would come home and turn on the tv - they'd do those tests and it would scare the crap out of me every time. "If this was a real emergency, you'd be informed about where to tune in for further information ..."

::: shudder :::

Back on topic: I'm eventually going to want the entire Boston Legal series .. I've never watched it because it was on a couple years before I noticed it, but it looks so darned good ... now, though, I'd want to buy it and watch it from the beginning ...

I'd like to see the Sopranos from start to finish, too - that's another one I never got to see ...

I already have the complete Northern Exposure set (another old favorite of ours). And I buy LOST each year when the last season comes out.

We don't buy a lot of DVDs though. Don't buy CDs much anymore either. Gotta save my money - want to retire.

hmmm well according to wiki they stopped doing guilding light on the radio before i was born so it couldn't have been that - i do remember dark shadows on the radio (maybe they ran it right before guilding light which was by then on television - anyway i used to listen to the radio and then switch to the televison with my grandma) oh yeah those civil defense things were horrible (we still have a monthly one here in wisconsin late at night it ran either last night or the night before but these aren't as bad as those old ones)...

- i'd like to see all the sopranos too i never watched it when it was originally on and missed out...

p.s. hahaha latch key here too and i'd come home hear that thing and think to myself oh well if a bunch of bombs go off i suppose i'll have to go round up my brothers...

- damn those eardrum breaking airplanes too...

I wasn't thinking of soaps on the radio, tv soaps were 15 minutes in a few cases when I was a kid ...

I musta missed the 'radio' part in your post ...

Yeah, funny how us latch key kids turned out okay, eh? It was a different world then, I suppose .. I'd have a fit these days if DD let my grandson come home to an empty house ...

I remember watching those shows ... Guiding Light, Search for Tomorrow, etc ... at my grandmother's house while she ironed sheets and handkerchiefs!!!

Good grief. I would have made a lousy housewife back then .. good thing I was a kid.

yes i do remember they were 15 min. on television too...

- my grandma did the same thing lol and as for my parents hmmm (perhaps i'll just not dwell on that too much heh) well anyway i never let my kids come home to an empty house either...

The evening news used to be on for only 15 minutes, too. My memory is probably wrong, but I seem to recall that it was CBS that went to 30 minutes first. Those were the days before news had to make a profit. It was considered to be a public service.

I'm also not sure about this, either, but I believe the first round-the-clock news coverage of an event was the assassination of JFK. Or do you think it was perhaps Sputnik? Somehow, it sticks in my brain it was the whole JFK/Oswald thing.

I think it was JFK, tek ... I remember that weekend very well and there wasn't even a commercial break ... hard to imagine any channel would do that these days, for any reason, now that the news divisions are expected to turn a profit, same as entertainment ...

Back in those days the news divisions were considered a public service and entertainment was the cashcow ... I'm not sure exactly when each area became self-supporting, but it certainly changed the way the news is presented!
