Oh jeez, Snowy, EFNet, hahaha! I haven't "done" IRC in years... don't even have mIRC on this computer, but I remember hauling ass around EFNet with a pack of wild hornets... (we got in trouble, *sniff*).

These board hop chats are fun; each place has its own "flavor" and there are way fewer snerts to deal with :D

The word "snert" was coined early in the days of online chats. AOL says that it is "really a disrespectful, dirty word for someone who doesn't abide by TOS or is otherwise irritating in some way..."

In any case, it is considered really, really insulting and should not be used (except under extreme provocation, requiring two Hail Marys and three Our Fathers for absolution.)

It's what we called creeps on IRC, Vinny. Here's the dictionary.com definition, which suggests a more specific usage than I ever knew:
