Robin, I miss that thread, where you put all those cool songs, and made me remember that band, Wire.
And, all those cool punk bands from the 70's! yeah!
Who else was a PUNK! My housekeeper had a mohawk!

(Okay, I tried posting this to the thread but it didn't seem to work. Maybe 2nd time is the charm, eh?)

Okay, so why is there some sort of time-delay for posting a reply?
(Okay, now there isn't a time-delay. Geesh, so what wass the deal last night then?)

rOss, the sounds I share with you are not songs, they are a litmus test. You understand what punk rock meant to some of us, if not yourself, you must understand what hope, faith and criticism went into spinning a disc for someone. Everything depends on how it is received, and when people bond over art it can be the only bond between us, but intense and significant enough to overcome a world of difference.
A few from my favorite band, California's American Music Club, who are back together and recording right now. I don't share this band too freely, the singer, Mark Eitzel was known in his early days for entering the crowd and punching people out for not paying attention, and I totally get why he'd do that.
Johnny Mathis' Feet
I lay all my songs at johnny mathises feet
I said, "johnny please tell me
Can you tell me how to live?
All my hopes are unraveling and I just lost my lease
On my house without love, doors, or windows
Without peace."
And with a wave of his jewel-encrusted hand
Across the glittering las vegas scene he said,
"you gotta learn how to disappear in the silk and amphetamine."
Johnny looked at my songs and he said,
"well at first guess, never in my life
Have I ever seen such a mess.
Why do you say everything as if you were a thief?
Like what you've stolen has no value
Like what you preach is far from belief. "
And with a wave of his red white and blue hand
Across the glittering hollywood scene he said,
"you gotta learn how to disappear in the silk and amphetamine."
Johnny looked at my old collection of punk rock posters
Anonymous scenes of disaffection choas and torture
And he said, "you were on the right track
But you're a lamb jumping for the knife."
He said, "a real showman knows how
To disappear in the spotlight."

HOW MANY SIX PACKS DOES IT TAKE TO SCREW IN A LIGHT?
I never had a lot to bring to the party
But a self-importance far beyond vanity
And a manic depression that just wouldnt go away
Like peckinpaw with a bouquet of poison ivy
How many six packs does it take to screw in a light
Its good to be alive baby, sometimes its alright
Nothing like a little vacation once in awhile
At the cable car hotel san francisco style
For three nights and three days
Jesus hung on a boom box while it played
Every single song ever sung by Billie Holiday
How many six packs does it take to screw in a light
Its good to be alive baby, sometimes its alright
Afterwards I'm on California street looking at the sky
The sun is going down pouring salt into my eyes
Like he said: when the light goes out so does fear
And you only see beauty as it begins to disappear
How many six packs does it take to screw in a light
Its good to be alive baby, sometimes its alright

SOMEWHERE
She's all dressed up and waiting for a bus
In the hot sunshine
She just wants to kill some time
But it looks like times gonna kill her first
So she goes to the cocktail lounge to lounge and says
"I'm gonna have a real good time."
As she sinks into the capitalist chair
I don't think that she really cares
If somewhere theres people living
She finally gets on the bus
And sinks next to a very nice lady
Who just got out of the hospital
She had a major operation
The doctor left a knife in her throat
And now it picks up radio waves
You can turn the dial til it comes up in your hand
Maybe youll pick up a populated land
Somewhere theres people living
C'mon lets go out and really drunk tonight
You can be Miss Bottomless Pit of 1983
And I can be Mr. Out Like A Light
Cmon we got a lot to lose
So maybe we can lose it all tonight
And then when they shoot us down
We won't be around
We'll be somewhere where theres people living

The Laughing Stock
The laughing stock proves that the world is made of rock
That some grow happily on, but thats hard for some
That's hard for some
You and your friend and
All the rest of gods sweet children
Never weak, always strong
Thats hard for some
You ask me why
You're just a couple of strangers in a bar
Giving me the chance to explain myself away
Some entertainment to give away
In your eyes I see the rest of life just passes by
And that's hard for some
You ask me why
That's your alibi
I'snt everything clear
I'sn't everything clear
No clouds in the sky
The laughing stock proves that the world is made of rock
That some grow happily on
That's hard for some

CRABWALK
He reels around the nightclub
Like the hubcaps off of a car
That just crashed into a sign that said
"This way to the nightclub."
He says you aint worth a dime
To his life support systems
They still keep him talking
On the chance that he'll say something
Don't you feel the decks rolling
I think we're on a stormy sea
I'm having trouble keeping down the light that I've stolen
He said, "Come on and do the crabwalk with me."
He's just trying to breathe some new life into the jukebox
But it doesn't take his crap it just keeps on staring back
And the quarters that he pours down its throat
Well they're just starting to get his goat
The song plays,
"I gave you everything and I never got anything back."
Don't you feel the decks rolling
I think that we're on a stormy sea
I'm having trouble keeping down the light that I've stolen
He said, "Come on and do the crabwalk with me."
He went fishing in the ocean
And all he got was a couple tires
And they came up dripping with emotion
And you know how fisherman are liars
The five hundred thousand dollar country guitar
Sits at home sad and lonely
No one has any pity for the life of the party
Don't you feel the decks rolling
I think we're on a stormy sea
He's having trouble keeping down the light
That he's stolen
He said, "come on and do the crabwalk with me."

OUTSIDE THIS BAR
The hospital wouldn't admit you
So we go home again
Right back to the same old room
Right back to the same old thing
But you know you're just another girl
Come from some carry-out in hell
You're just another story how they fucked up the life
Of a sweet girl
We'll sit and look at the street
Watch the el dorados roll by
You can't look your murderers
You can't look them in the eye
But you know they can always spot you
From a mile away
They give you anything you want
They'll do anything you say
And outside this bar theres no one alive
Outside this bar how does anyone survive
Together you and me
You know we've gotta destroy this world
C'mon darling we've gotta destroy this world
And I remember when
Your girlfriend would put you on display
You'd be the life of the party
Til they come and drag you away
But in the end well watch the pattern
As it begins to tear
We'll see the chaos thats underneath
All the clothes that the angels wear
And outside this bar theres no one alive
Outside this bar how does anyone survive
Together you and me
You know we'll never destroy this world
C'mon baby I wish we could destroy this world
Outside this bar
Together you and me turn this quiet night into silence
Together we'll turn this love into violence

THE PRESIDENT'S TEST FOR PHYSICAL FITNESS
Once upon a time me and Vudi met
A major American rock star in a shop
We were immediately jealous of his hair
And his fuel-injected sports cock
He made the usual stupid sexual jokes
About the way he comes on top
But I could tell it was a lie
By the way that he walked
How did you pass the Presiden'ts Test
Even if I can't match your ability to compete
At least give me a chance to cheat
He said, "Are you losers making fun
Of our serious vocation?
You just gotta bring the music to the people man
And then go score a hole in one."
The pleasures of a treadmill and the factory
Took all the innocence from his eyes
Leaving him to spurt unashamed
By the size of his dull suprise
How did you pass the Presiden'ts Test
I never felt honest telling those virutous lies
And my toupee always gets into my eyes
How do you pass the President's Test
I don't even want to know my score
I don't know who's telling me the truth anymore
I said, "The only thing that we're good for
Is being forgotten."
And I know you're big enough of a star
To make sure that the job gets done
How do you pass the President's Test
I swear one day they'll build a monument
To the man with the most reasons for his embarassment
How do you pass the President's Test
No I don't even want to know my score
I don't know who's telling me the truth anymore

HULA MAIDEN
Well I got into Waikiki
And I spend my time up in the hotel room
No sunburn for me
No friends no family
Yes I see the view
Well I think I seen it somewhere before
Curled up on the sand
Curled up on the floor
And the hula maiden says
I'll give you everything for free
You're as hungry as the tide
That's drowning me
Well I took my big free ride
I went out to the big barbecue
And I got smashed on the beach
I was thinking about you
This is my big aloha
Brought to you from the volcano state
Where they serve up your soul
For $3.99 a plate
And the hula maiden says
I'll give you everything for free
Oh sugar you're as hungry as the tide
That's washing over me
And the hula maiden said
Oh darling I see it in your eyes
Well did you do it over here beautiful
Did you come here to die
Well she said did you come here to buy
Well this my big aloha
Coming to you from the volcano state
Where they lose track of your soul
And never bring you your spaghetti plate

NOW YOU'RE DEFEATED
I thought there was more life than finishing a dream
I thought gravity helped you to dance
but it just makes you sink
after all
I stand in the way of people who stopped caring
Numb hands and feet and ears long past hearing
They sing now you're defeated baby
Fall on your face in the divine way
Don't worry about anything, no
It's just the world having its little way
Justice ain't going to be yours tonight
You got a pure bright soul but Heaven don't need it
Sit on your hands and talk to the friend you never had
Angels laugh with joy and they make you scream
At the strong open crowd, they want the great fight
Push up against you and then sustain the right
To sing
Now you're defeated baby
World revolves around you
Now you're defeated baby
I really showed you
Now you're defeated baby
Now that you're too big to hold
Now you're defeated baby
You're worth more to me than gold

Killing Game
Skinny Puppy
Fallen angel head crashes dead out of control
Lost memories staircase twists
Darker rooms lit with left out toys
After playing mean changes toys into tools
Twisted playthings on the staircase fools
Fools weapons well presents the killing game
Who taught the killing game
Who taught the killing game
Awaken eyes sewn wearing glasses dripping tap tap temple door
Locked inside scream inner scraping tooth and nail nowhere to go
Quiet retraces forcing light tears then pretend nothing blinds
Blinds closed in sanctuary closed in sanctuary
Padded walls not quiet storm's fury burnt out killing time
Who taught the killing game
Time's taught the killing game herself
No I taught the killing game first
Passing words distant pain remember trains of thought collide
No one view window
Pushing faces through shards cold glass poke bloody holes exposed
I taught the killing game first
I taught the killing game first
Tongue lash spewing red tortured animals wake up time
Beckons death upon myself eyes travelled harden
Strange no stronger feeling
Tempting motion slows to a crawl
Places his own foot in its own trap
Let go the springs snap shut
Crazy sharper teeth giving in to the jaws of death
I taught the killing game
I taught the killing game first
I taught I taught I taught the game first
