Ross, go to your admin control panel. On the top left, click "vbulletin options". Then, scroll down to "User picture options". From there, you will see the "avatars enabled" box where you must select "yes".

Shows up as yes already. Are they not working?

Have you uploaded any? On my board I uploaded a bunch I found for people to choose from, otherwise everyone will have to host and post thier own.

This is what comes up when I click on 'Edit Avatar':
Your Current Avatar
No Avatar Specified Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.
* Do not use an avatar
Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it.
I can't unclick the box that says 'do not use an avatar.

And it doesn't appear to be working, from the USER control panel, on the left "edit avatar" I see this:
Your Current AvatarNo Avatar Specified Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.
Do not use an avatar
Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it.
There is no option to upload my own

Right now I am uploading smiles. Avatars will have to come later, I guesss. There's not a "stock set". Well, learn as we go. I have much work ahead of me. Lotta lotta work.
Smiles though. That's what I am doing now. Had to download and upload my smiles. Uploading still.

There is a way to fix this, I had the same problem on my board when I first opened it. I'll have to remember what I did to solve the problem. ***thinker cap***

Speaking of smilies, Ross, can you please load these two?

All I remember is on OTWA if you wanted a custom one it wouldn't work at first - you had to choose one from the list - then if you went back in again you could change it to custom.
New board - I gotta find a new avatar! I'll let you guys figure out how to make 'em work while I search for one. ;)

You need to allow them for each Group in the Usergroup Manager - under "Picture Uploading Permissions".

One thing that I dearly loved about the old Ross board was the very very visible unread icon. No squinting to see the color ot a 1/16" square as I scrolled. I sure hope that is something that you bring back fairly quickly.

Ross this is what I found
Implementing Avatars on vBulletin
The administrator can choose to implement avatars a number of ways, they can opt to disable avatars completely, allow users to select from a list of predefined avatars or allow users to upload their own custom avatars. The administrator can assign the avatar permissions on a per-usergroup basis.
To configure avatars on your bulletin board first open the vBulletin Options menu in the Admin CP. Select User Picture Options.
In this section you can set the following options:
* Avatars Enabled - Use this to enable/disable the overall use of avatars
* Avatar Display Width - This option defines the number of columns of avatars displayed to the user via the user control panel avatar selection page.
* Avatars Per-Page - This option defines the number of pages the avatars will be displayed over in the user control panel avatar selection page.
* Profile Pictures Enabled - This option relates to the use of profile pictures which if enable will allow members to upload small images, usually larger than avatars, that can be displayed on the member's profile in the members' list.
If avatars are enabled the administrator can also choose to include avatars in the registration options. This will set the defaults for new members during the registration process.
To enable avatars for member registrations, option vBulletin Option and select User Registration Options.
Scroll down the page until you find Default Registration Options and tick the box next to Display Avatars

Please, Starduster. Please. I'm sorry, I'm just taking things slow. Everyone who posts here must know that the "paint is still wet", there's plaster drying, the carpet's only half way down.
I assure you, we will have a full featured board.
Right now I have less than 10 hours using a brand new control panel.
Finally today, I have some new forums coming in. Please, give me some time on this one.

I say take it as slow as you want. With all the traffic through here, it's clear most are very happy there's a place to visit!!

Hey, people! For five years your had a board without even smilies, for christ's sake. Now you want it all in a day! If it were my board, I wouldn't even allow sig lines, and especially sig photos. UGH.
Of course, I'll use them when we get them. :1chirol_r

Ross, you're doing a great job! I think it's good that you learn as you go - one thing at a time. There are a lot more options with this board than there were with your ezboard and it's going to take time. Considering that you've never worked with this type of board before, I think you've done an amazing job of getting it up and running. All the little extras will come along eventually, but the important thing is the board is up and people can post.

Oh, this is just too damn funny!
What? That someone who just started using vBulletin doesn't fully comprehend the admin panel just a few hours after the boad is installed?
Ross, YD is right about one thing... if you start adding on non-vB mods later down the line, everything will go wonky when you need to upgrade. Best to not add mods/hacks to the board if you aren't prepared to deal with that. It is probably the most frequent cause of vB owners ending up institutionalized.

And he was correct. I am not about to add anything until I can run the control panel in my sleep.
