This may be old news to some, but I just found out about it. I think Google would do well with this since the Google name is well known. Also, there are so many people that can't stand Ebay and hate the thought of putting more money in their pockets by using Paypal.

I found several articles online about this, but some of them are from newspapers where a subscription is required to read the article. Here's one that doesn't require a subscription:

Do you know about BugMeNot?

Go to www.bugmenot.com (http://www.bugmenot.com), enter the URL of the site you are trying to read, and up pops a throwaway registration username and password so you can read the article without giving up private information.

or you could register, and tell them you are an 84-year-old sheepherder from Lithuania....

Hmmm, my one grandmother was from Lithuania, so it may very well be that I have a relative that fits that description. :lol

Thanks for the info, Katie! I'll keep it handy since I often come across articles I want to read that are subscription bases.

I hope they start Google Auctions, too, and burn eBay to the fucking ground.

This link doesn't even remotely resemble today's print version on the same subject in the SF Chronicle, which stated that Google has no intention of competing with PayPal's system. I got the distinct impression from the printed article that Google has a new angle... perhaps one-time throwaway "credit card" numbers tied to all the transactions it processes, thereby alleviating many online consumers' fears of identity theft and/or compromised stored information.

Whatever their plans, I hope they work out; Google is a great company.

(And here's some free stock advice: wanna invest a few thousand? Go for Trader Joe's. They're going to be expanding eastward shortly, and ya just can't beat that Two-Buck Chuck, nor the high-quality, inexpensive meat/dairy/produce, and rotating selection of unfarmed frozen seafoods.)

Quote:
And here's some free stock advice

Speaking of which, I tried to convince my mother to invest her savings into the Google IPO last year, but she was too scared to do it. Had she listened to me, she could have retired this year.
