Beautiful drive, nice city, I've never been there. Had to run an errand, get my VA Medical Card photo taken. That took about 55 seconds.

Then Mrs. Ross and I went shopping, and had lunch, and went shopping again.

Mrs. Ross only had 1 beer with lunch. I had a few more. She drove home,

Prescott's a strange place, imo... a contrived community. (With wayyyy too much golf course irrigation!) I have a friend in Terra Vita ( -gated, "planned" neighborhood, complete with security guards and paint police!). Probably, you couldn't pay me to live in such a place...

Prescott's a strange place, imo... a contrived community.

Yeah. A real tourist trap.

Never been there, in all our many mnay Arizona Trips.

It's an odd town, for sure.

I sure did have fun, though. And the VA facility there is quite nice.

I'm glad you like the VA facility in Prescott, Ross.
Mr. Happy and I going up to Walter Reed this Friday for his yearly physical.
He drives - no beer! :lol

Thanks for the nice post, Ross. I enjoy reading about your trips.

Happy, the VA is giving yearly physicals? That's good. It's a practice our very large HMO has essentially abandoned.

VA is giving yearly physicals?

They require it.

An HMO that doesn't practice responsible *wellness*...time to change plans if at all possible.

When you get older Ross, they require a semi annual visit which blew my DH away to find out.

So far he has had great results working with the VA...some delays but if you need help just contact your patient advocate and they will straighten everything out very quickly.
Every Vet, has a medical advocate.

Get your visit in while you can -- Walter Reed is on the BRAC closure list --- though there's a long way to go before it's closed. But a lot of people thought they could never close Cameron Station, and it's all high priced townhouses and condos now.

What Ross said, a yearly physical is required.

Socrfan

We know that Walter Reed in on the BRAC closure list.
Walter Reed is a very busy facility, appointments are hard to get. Hopefully, the closure is a long way off or better no closure.
Most likely we be relocating from this area in 2008.

The beauty of living in a lower population state.

Prescott serves all of "Northern Arizona" Waiting lists are short, and my local clinic is the same. I can get an appointment right away, any time, with just a phone call

Ross, I know what you mean. Living in a lower population state is wonderful.
We're in Northern Virginia due to Mr. Happy's job contract as an Engineering Analyst for the Army and Marines.
We can go to our local clinic in Woodbridge, VA or to the DeWitt Hospital at Fort Belvoir. We can get appointments at both fairly fast.
But, for the yearly physical at the VA facility, required for disablity benefits, Mr. Happy have to go to Walter Reed or to the VA facility in Salem, VA, witch is further away.

Old Fort Whipple, now the Veterans Administration Hospital at Prescott, Ariz. At one time this was the center of army protective personnel for the settlers in the area and also was the headquarters of Teddy Roosevelt when he was one of the Rough Riders.

Happy mentioned the facility in Salem, VA - which is less than a mile from where I live. It's a beautiful "campus", and I've been trying like mad to get a job there, but the openings are few and far between - and they of course give preference to Veterans (which I am not).

Thought I'd wave a "hello-howdy" to my sorta neighbor Happy, and might as well leave a link from the source Ross provided.
