Board Admins, you might want to check all your archives, too. There's a new wrinkle being reported now -- some or all of the archive forums will show normally on the front page, correct number of posts and pages, but when you open the forum there is nothing inside.
I checked our archives, and some are there and some aren't. There doesn't appear to be any pattern to the ones that are missing.

Thanks. TRB is effected by this. I have posted again, at the Help board.

Ross, you appear to be missing about half the threads from 2003 and most threads from the year 2004 and the first four months of 2005.
Nuts, they realy got a mess going. Cant even post to the form to report the mess. LOL
That is one way to sow down the complaints.

Today's ezboard problems
Here is a summary of the symptoms resulting from today's ezboard server issues:
1) Certain boards and forums are missing topics.
2) Various request errors are hindering boards (when opening certain topics, when replying, etc.). The problem where boards' main pages were giving a request error should be fixed, though.
3) Some boards have reported losses of funds from their Community Chests.
4) Various boards' user member lists have lost a number of users or gone blank(?) .
5) Certain boards' security logs have gone blank.
6) The ezboard network is slow.
Along with our technical operations department, we have been and are continuing to work on the solutions to each of these problems. Until we are able to come up with specific instructions for each issue, please sit tight. We will make each set of instructions available as soon as possible.
On behalf of ezboard, I apologize for the inconvenience and thank all of you for your patience (we apologize for the lack of an immediate update, but we have also been hindered by request errors and time-outs when trying to post here). Again, we will update this topic as frequently as possible.

I can get a topic posted on one board. One repy through with the report, and then caint get the next reply to go through.
Weird glitch.

Dear ezboard Family,
On Tuesday May 31 ezboard's systems were the victim of a very precise and malicious internet attack. This attack resulted in the loss of a significant amount of current and historical board postings and interrupted services across all systems. I deeply apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused and am here to give you the first of several in-depth updates.
At this time most board management services have been restored and our goal is to have post/reply repaired on Wednesday . We are working to restore board data from our back-up systems. This will take some time, and complete data restoration may not be possible, but it is what we are working towards. What we know now is that the attacker deleted current board and back-up data. We are taking the fastest route to restore data, but it may take up to 48 hours to get data back to approximately 9,000 boards. A more manual method requiring upwards of seven to ten days is required to restore data to the other boards that lost data. Regrettably we may not be able to restore data to all boards that lost data.
Second to restoring board data we are gathering information on how the attacker went about his or her business and what evidence was left behind. We are using this information to reduce the opportunity for future attackers as we build our new release. Should you hear or read anything about this attack we would love to know about it at legal@ezboard.com.
You should be aware that there is no evidence that personal information was touched. There was also no opportunity to see or download credit card information as ezboard does not keep credit card numbers on file.
Again, I apologize to you for any inconvenience caused as we value your participation on ezboard today and as we move towards an exciting - and more robust - version of the experience. We are working to restore your systems as fast as possible. Gold Board managers will be receiving information on GB subscription credits in the next few days.
We we keep you updated as the restoration progresses.
Sincerely,
Rob

Robin, I can understand what you must be going through. You know I have read so much of what was on your board.
I have a student/work board, and we lost months of threads that were full of resources and information that took a lot of research by several people.
From reading the Bug Base, it looks as if this thing is not over yet. I think a second wave may be making its rounds. If anyone has anything of importance left, perhaps they might want to start copying and pasting...

I know vBulletin boards have a way to migrate data from Ezboard. Have not done it myself..or know how time consuming it is.. Group of online gamer friends moved their board from EZ to vBulletin after one of the last EZ outages and they were able to transfer many of the old forums that dated from 2001.
perhaps doing something like that would be a way to retain what data remains?

<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>vBulletin is the cadillac of messageboards right now - or so it seems. If I knew how do their programming, and I could afford their license, I'd switch my board over in a heartbeat, but....<hr></blockquote> If you have your own site where you can host the forums, you don't need to spend money on the vBulletin license. You can use YaBB or phpBB, both of which are far superior to ezboard's antiquated software. I've been saying for years that ezboard is garbage, and this incident just proves that ez, and its staff, lick donkey balls. For the sites I design and maintain that have forums, I would never depend on ezboard. Not only is it inferior, but you don't have to worry about interference from that sloppy cunt DeMello when you host it yourself.

I have a site, and will be doing some research. YABB is programmed in Perl. I need a board programmed in PHP, as that is what I am familiar with.
Someone told me phpBB was a security risk, but I have not looked into that yet.
A free web host I used to use had someone, intentionally or unintentionally, delete the contents of the server hard drive. The people crying the loudest at their support forum were the ones who did not have back ups of their files (the web host did not do back ups, and let everyone know in their TOS that they were responsible for doing their own).
After that, and after this, knowing that our data can be compromised anywhere, anytime, it just makes sense to back up our own data- it doesn't make sense not to. And ezBoard does not offer a back up feature.
KatieP
06-01-2005, 10:46 AM
EZBoard has stated in the Support forums, in the past, that they specifically wrote the software to prohibit backups or exports. They did not want anyone to be able to back up their boards and then take them to be hosted elsewhere.
I always thought that this was a rather short-sighted attitude.

<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>YABB is programmed in Perl. I need a board programmed in PHP, as that is what I am familiar with.<hr></blockquote> If you can handle PHP, you could successfully install and operate a YaBB board. You wouldn't have to be an expert Perl programmer to manage it.
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>Someone told me phpBB was a security risk, but I have not looked into that yet.<hr></blockquote> There was a virus that attacked phpBB boards a few months ago, but patches have been released to correct that flaw.
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>After that, and after this, knowing that our data can be compromised anywhere, anytime, it just makes sense to back up our own data- it doesn't make sense not to.<hr></blockquote> That's the beauty with hosting your own. You can simply FTP copies to your hard drive every month, every week, or every day.

Cartman:
1) I put that board together, with no help from anyone. And why anyone would want to take the credit (blame) for the sorry affair that ZD was back then is beyond me. I have to, as I was the one responsible.
2) I never promised anyone anything.
3) Can you not let this go? After all this time?

2) I never promised anyone anything.Yes - not even honesty or loyalty - we know!
3) Can you not let this go? After all this time?Yes - AFTER you return that which you stole! Then, and only then, will I then "let it go".

And yes, after she and you pulled the stunts you did, and I banned you, it was the choice of the majority of the members to follow the two of you.

The board has been serving a very constructive purpose since I re-opened it. To what use would you have put it?To serve the community for which it was created - that's what!
You created that board with another - you then had a huge POWER-TRIP and kicked her out. The ENTIRE community then left in protest (except you and one other) - you then offered the board to practically anyone that wanted it (other than its members, of course).
You are a bitter, spiteful bitch - and you stole that board from its members as much as you did from your partner.
Your are morally not entitled to keep it and I will NEVER QUIT until you give it back!!!

Lol, you have really been hanging on to that idea, haven't you? I posted something similar about Age/Pickles to ZD as well. It's pretty common knowledge that it was written to bolster her spirits after the way Chops lit into her. But all this has been covered many times before.
So, suit yourself, Cartman. Spend your time and energy however you like. I really don't want to waste another minute of my life on it.

I get so confused by your lies.
I think I have it now though.
You lied to all your members, to your partner, to the members of the car wash - to everyone - to lift "the spirits" of your partner?
You told ALL THOSE LIES because you liked her so much?
Is that the story?
Then you banned her and shut the board down?
