Hey Ross...

On EzBoard, there was only the option of edit or no edit.

vBulletin has the option of edit, edit with a time limit, and no edit..

Would you consider a 1 minute edit or something, for typos?

I'm a hard ass - I like the no edit philosophy here - you own your words, typos and all. Typos are expected, no one is perfect. :1guitarpl

True, typos are expected, but sometimes they totally lose the point of the post. And it takes 3 or 4 more posts to compensate... it just makes the whole thing more confusing, and for what? So you can "own your typos"?

I'll think on this issue. It's certainly an easier issue that "Ross, we need CHAT"....

Know what ya mean Bobby...and it is even MORE confusing if you post in the game or other threads where edit *IS* ok.....I keep forgetting that it isn't in the main forum.

Course....you could also look at it from another standpoint.....

....look at George's posts....and he plays up the typos and misspellings and bad grammer in his posts....

....and WHO is it that gets all the wimmins on the boards???

Maybe us anal retentive, typo~spellchecker addicts are the ones missing the key play to the game! :D

With a one-minute edit time, couldn't you delete your whole post instead of just correcting a typo?

sadie999
08-20-2005, 11:07 AM
Playing devil's advocate here - it's hard to proof your own writing anywhere.

Even though I use the preview button 99.9% of the time, there are still times when I'm reading through a thread that I see a typo I made that just embarrasses the crap out of me.

I'm not sure 15, 30, or 60 seconds will solve anything that the preview button doesn't already solve.

Peace,
Sadie http://server1.inlandnet.com/~jilittle/coffee9.gif

If you use internet explorer, I use IESpell.

It does a spell check on your post, and will even add those cute little accent marks to words like:

Pinata and fiancee.

PIÑATA FIANCÉE

Damn, if I'd had an edit I would have put in the link to the program.

It's free.

Kashtin~ Not all typos are speeling errors.

http://www.therossshow.com/showthread.php?p=8604#post8604

I first typed that post another way, and then realized it was clumsy and didn't convey my thought well... so I changed around the words in the first part of the sentence so it would make more sense, but it didn't make sense with the rest of it to convey my meaning.

Yeah, I know Bobby. Like my last post illustrated, I forgot to put a link to the program. Edit would make it handy for those one finger typists like me, whose brain goes just a little faster than the finger. Sometimes the finger can't keep up.

But as far as spelling typos, I like IESpell a lot better than whats found on the boards for a spell check.

I'll chime in in favor of "No Edit".

While I'm as prone as anyone to typo's, more than many, I think the penalty of not being able to fix typo's is outweighed by the benefits of not having edit capabilities. In addition to the obvious factor of 'owning your words', there is also the added benefit of coercing people to slow down and see what they're saying. There is nothing so urgent on a message board that you can't take the time to preview your post for typo's and also review what you've written to make sure it says what you mean.

What you should have though Ross, is something I've seen on another board - a forum where people can not only edit their own post, but anyone else's posts as well. :D Now THAT gets interesting. :D

True, george gets all the women-folk. But that's because he's cute and funny and sexy and smart. Other than that, what else would we be interested in?

Therp

I'll second the naked secretary. :D

The rest of the staff (except Ross of course) should also be clothing optional. :D

I don't believe I've ever seen a picture of Ross, but I've never noticed any hairs sticking out of his artwork - you'd think if he was that hairy one or two would have gotten stuck in the paint. :p :1artist: :D

I agree. In a forum often fraught with debate, sometimes markedly heated, your words are your tools of impact. Personally when I'm typing a post I usually re-read it before I hit submit. I'll be doing that before I hit submit on this post. Sometimes I don't and I eat the typos and/or misconstrued effect - but the bottom line is that your post is a snapshot of your thoughts at the moment.... 'later' even if its a minute later, that snapshot is not the same however subtle or inconsequential the difference may be. If your point is crucial, then you should take the time to re-read your words anyway before you commit to them, sometimes seemingly for all eternity. Some folks get in trouble not doing that but I'm not naming any names, LOL .......

Re-read .................. ok ......... SUBMIT!

Hey, Nobs-Sis... :)

I got #2 by a fluke of fate. Rosshow is #1...LOL! I just checked the link that Bobby posted, and there the site was...with just Ross as a member. I signed up, natch. ;) What can I say...I'm only second to Ross. :1modhat:

I think a 5 minute edit option would be a good idea and wouldn't be abused (and couldn't) by 99.9% of the posters here. Sometimes you regret something you said, immediately after saying it, and wish you could delete it. And, typos, for some of you who make them, those suck too.

Heartland

Sometimes you regret something you said, immediately after saying it, and wish you could delete it. Yes, Base definitely needs a five-minute edit. :1dig:

I'm sittin' on the fence, myself. I don't mind eating my typos, but I can understand not being clear about something and having it misconstrued. On the other hand, there is the preview, and it would be a good idea for everyone to get in the habit of using it.

Chat would be nice.

And as proven by all of the folks in chat Friday night at GT - we don't need edit. The people who post here would understand typos etc.
I have made my fair share and I just add a post to explain the typo.
My fear with having a 60 sec. edit (or however many seconds) is that it would encourage the fucktards as opposed to helping the decent (and somewhat decent) folk who post here. And it would create a nightmare for Ross. I can just picture it now. :1eek2:
