I didn't tell Ross the story of the black iris when I bought one of his "black iris" paintings about a year ago........

My mom has lived in the same house 40+ years. She has a flowerbed in her back yard, on the north side, (don't know if that means anything), and over the years it's had a variety of flowers, groundcover, once she tried tomatoes.

There has been one type of iris that does come up on their own in that bed. They're the sort of ugly ones....two tone, goldish/purple. She has never planted any other kind of iris in that bed.

Not this past summer, but the one before, a perfect black iris came up all on it's own. For some reason, the bulb had been dormant for 40 years! It was just an amazing/cool thing to happen, so that's why she needed the iris painting.

That's a great story, thanks for telling it.

That was one on wooden panel, right? Really textured?

No, it wasn't on wood, but did have a lot of texture. That's why I hesitated to call it a watercolor, it was probably acrylics.

She loved it for the connection of the black iris, and because she knows who you are.

She never got involved with any of the boards, but she read "The Perfect Store" and went to the first two eBay Lives......she loves stuff like this.

I knew it would be a great gift when I first saw the auction.
