View Full Version : You've ALL Done These Things, Right? RIGHT???

We've all had 24 hour spans like this, right?

I mean, we attend a training class, spend 10 minutes carefully phrasing a relevant question -- fully aware of the SOUND of eyes rolling back into the heads of our fellow students -- only to be remember half-way through the asking of said question that the topic wasn't discussed in the class at all, but in conversation outside and that nobody knows wth we're talking about?

We go home, we open our bills, separate return slip from statement, shred statement and other inserts that came along in the envelope ... only to realize after writing the checks, that we've shredded the RETURN ENVELOPE as well? So we spend the next 20 minutes wondering if we should skip this month's payment or allow ourselves to be completely humiliated by the customer service rep we'll have to call and deal with to get a simple mailing address? And of course it's really not our fault - it's THEIR fault, because who doesn't use WINDOW envelopes, anyway, in this day and age??? Then we say 'screw it' and just call and get it over with, only to be able to HEAR the CS rep stifle a giggle when you tell the truth ... we make a mental note to LIE next time, and say we 'misplaced' the stupid envelope ... or better yet, we vow to stop shredding things altogether, and will, from this day forward, just throw things in the trash like other people do - better, after all, to risk identity theft than a choked-on-laughter CSR ...

And then .. later on that same quiet and bored evening, we decide to play a silly little joke on someone we know ... and we're feeling quite proud of ourselves, not only did we give ourselves a few minutes relief from the boredom, but we just KNOW that the person on the receiving end will at least get, if not a sustained chuckle, at the very least, they'll get a single solitary "HAR" out of it all ...

But - of COURSE - we find out that, alas, this TOO has gone awry ... we played the same damned trick on the same damned person a few months earlier and had completely forgotten about it ...

What's that old saying, 'I'm old, so everything is always new to me!!!' ??

Of course, I've never done any of these things .. I'm just telling funny stories that I made up in my head ...

But you've all done these things, right? Right??

I knew that you had.

Nope, I have never done those things.

I just repeat myself and tell the same story twice.

I've definitely done the one in class. :D

There are many signs that I'm getting older.

Thanks for the chuckle.

My favorite is to run back in the house, and then up stairs to retrieve the car keys I've forgotten, only to arrive, completely out of breath and now certain to be late for work, finding the keys had been in my hand the whole time.

Or to be watching a football game, in the middle of a crucial play getting up and walking three rooms away only to have no idea why I'm there and why it was so urgent that I had to leave the game in the middle of said crucial play.

Or calling someone and after the normal hellos and chatting to see how each other are, asking why they called.

Getting older isn't so bad - obviously you forget you've done all this stuff, because you go back and do it again over and over. :D

Funny thread.

Therp, your key story reminded me that just yesterday I looked everywhere for my sunglasses.......yes, I already had them on :1eek2:

Did ya ever tell yourself a joke, and then not get it?? Well, I figure the day THAT happens is the day I'll just hang it up LOL.

I haven't done that one yet Nana, but my mother's trademark is to spend five minutes telling a joke - and then forget the punch line. I will admit to that one, once or twice.

Therp, I am forever walking into rooms and then can't remember why I did. I did it just last night, and had to stand there and gather my thoughts before I remembered I wanted a new roll of paper towels.

I've also been known to put the milk in the cabinet instead of the fridge.

Alright, Sandy.....now I just KNOW we are all ok. For a couple of days now, I have looked for my salt shaker. Found it in the frig this morning. I've probably opened the frig dozens of times, and still didn't see it. :1crazy:

LOL Nana! I've done that with the salt too. And countless times I've grabbed the pepper instead of the salt and ruined a recipe.

Eek, I hate to think about all the things I'll lose in the years to come. I don't think it's going to get better. :1cryhard:

My favorite fridge trick is to open it up to grab a soda to refill my glass, turn around to the counter and open the soda and go to pour it and have the glass missing. After wandering around for five minutes with the soda in hand wondering where in hell I could have set the glass down, finally deciding to put the soda back in the fridge so it doesn't get warm while I'm looking, only to find the glass staring at me from inside the fridge. :D

I think those things happen because gremlins live in the refrigerator. :D

If I'm sitting at my desk and I find that I need a book or whatever from my bedroom, I usually get up figuring I'll fill my coffee and pee and do it all in one trip. So, I walk to the other end of the house, put my coffee cup by the coffeemaker, and go pee. Then I walk back to the office.

Crap, I forgot the coffee. Back to the kitchen, pour the coffee, back to my desk.

Crap, I forgot the original thing I needed from my bedroom. Back to the bedroom, get the thing, back to my desk.

Being forgetful means getting lots of exercise. :1chirol_r

Heh. Cute thread.

The other day I made coffee. . .only to discover clear water in the carafe. . .never put the filter or the coffee in the maker. :2gamecock

And I can never leave the house once. Always get halfway to the elevator, and have to return for something.

And I do the, "why did I get up and come into this room" routine daily, I think. Who remembers. :)

:1chirol_r to all of you - omg do these posts hit home.

I routinely go to the grocery store several times per week because I forget things. I've been known to go to the store for 2 items - TWO ITEMS - and leave with $100 worth of shit but neither of the 2 items I went in for.
Ever be in one aisle and think about something that you need on the next one so you immediately go to the next aisle only to find that not only do you not remember what it is you needed in this aisle but now you've also forgotten what you were doing in the previous aisle when you got distracted by your thought of the next aisle... :(

Recently when driving with my kids and trying to remember the directions of where we were going I kept saying "Which way? Which way?" - and then exasperated I said: "Left or right? Its a yes or no question!!!" They laughed their little monkey asses off at me. *sigh*

I've been known to have up to 3 pens behind one ear and another stuck in my hair ... and I can't find a dam pen for the life of me!

Ever call someone and forget who you called when they answer the phone so you just hang up and then you remember who you called and start to call them back but realize that you must wait the appropriate few minutes lest they say "Did you just call a minute ago?" and you either have to lie or look like a dumbass ;)

WOW! Have any of you realized you are all eligible to HIDE YOUR OWN EASTER EGGS?

You are soooooo old you should be thinking of the hereafter! I guess you really do a lot of that, open the fridge, walk into a room, go upstairs, and think: "What am I hereafter?" Bwahahaha!!

I opened the kitchen closet today looking for a tray of icecubes....hmmmm looked in the freezer and there they were! Modern technology is amazing!!

Carrying a big tote bag at an antique show, pulled out my calculator, cell phone and finally found my walkie talkie. Got some strange looks when I was talking into my calculator!!

Finally learned my lesson. Now I never set foot inside the store without a list. Still, I always manage to forget something that is ON THE LIST.

We have a deep freezer in the laundry room and my son (I call him Einstein) wanders in occasionally to get something out of the dryer only to open the freezer and wonder why he just opened the freezer. He's doomed, LOL

Oh, let's see ....

Several times I've called my grandmother, when I meant to call my dad. Granny picks up the phone, and I'm mystified, because my first thought is that she must be at my dad's house. LOL! Then I realize what I did, and I can't exactly blurt out that "Oh, I didn't mean to call you!", and we end up chatting for an hour. (Which I don't normally mind, but she's rather gabby, and if I'm in a hurry, well ....) :1bonk1:

I'm constantly doing the "walk into another room and forget what the heck I went in there after" thing. I usually have to retrace my steps in order to remember. :1crazy:

DH puts stuff in the fridge that doesn't go there, and leaves stuff out that DOES need to be kept cold. :2slampan:

Oh, and last but not least: I sometimes forget to make sure there's TP in the bathroom before sitting down ... at which time, it's already too late. You'd think I'd learn, eventually.

I have never, in my life, EVER, as far as I know, done the things that some of the people here have, or at least suggested they had, in any capacity, to the best of my knowledge, the things discussed here are, or were, and that's the way it will always be.

Time for bed so I must go.

Just you wait, Base. Your day will come. I almost went outside in my underwear today, then noticed the dog was looking at me funny.

I'm not sure, but I think the big worry comes when you wear your underwear on the outside rather than going outside in your underwear. :D

This has been a great thread. For the life of me I can never remember my daughter's birthdate. Is it May 2nd or May 3rd? I always have to look at the birth certificate.
