Lewis Libby, a senior aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was indicted in the CIA leak investigation, has resigned and left the White House, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said on Friday.
Libby resigned "earlier today, it was accepted, and he is no longer at the White House," McClellan told reporters.
"We'll have more to say after the special counsel has his press availability," he said. Special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald planned to hold a news conference at 2 p.m. EDT.
Libby submitted his letter of resignation earlier on Friday, McClellan said.
Libby was indicted on five criminal counts of obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements after a two-year investigation into the leak of a covert CIA operative's identity.

Sandy why would they bother to spend much time explaining anything? This administration acts as though they have no accountability to the nation & Americans don't seem especially outraged by that.
The electorate disliked his handling of the environment, economy & foreign affairs. Many that opposed the war voted for the fuck b/c of some moronic notion that we must stay the course while at war even when it's a disatrous course we're following & a BAD war.
I doubt very much they have anything to sweat over about this.

There's some discussion about the possibility of Cheney retiring "for health reasons."
I have no doubt that any resignation by Cheney would be on paper only. He'll still be pulling the strings, behind closed doors.

I say the grand jury is going to sit on Libby 'til he squeals. Rich white guys don't like prison. He has resigned. He's no longer in the safe confines of the WH. He's not longer beholding to his boss. His boss has forsaken him.
He'll squeal. Then the fun begins. :2slampan:

This dude just waived his right to a speedy trial ...
Standard practice in criminal cases. The first rule is: Delay, delay, delay. Wait, wait, wait.

They'll try their best to drag this out until after the 2006 elections, or even the 2008 elections. Then all the dirt will come out, but Cheney will be back on the king's throne at Halliburton by then, and Dubya will be clearing brush by the truckload -- which is all he's good for.

I don't think they could drag it out past 2008. MAYBE the Congressional 2006's ... but a more amusing scenario would be a full-on trial scandal DURING the elections. <getting out the popcorn and spatter-guard, heh>
