Sadie, I've mulled this over in my head ever since the first cross-over posts started appearing at the old TRB ... every time new posters come along, dragging their own board wars (or dumb ideas) behind them, it seems a few more oldtime posters disappear ...

I am NOT talking about new folks who actually contribute something, I'm talking about the pot-stirring cross-board bullshit - and there IS a difference ...

For awhile it was folks who traipsed in on the heels of 'she who is not named in this forum' ... more recently it was a bunch of folks that wandered in here from Rod's board ... I've got nothing against Rod personally - and I think his posters (for the most part) enjoy his board and his type of banter (?) ... but somehow the most contentious of the lot found their way over here and they just kind of settled in ... for awhile, anyway ...

And now it's these waggle-pop idiots ....

While it's easy enough to PLONK them all, it's a bit tougher to get the old crowd to come back ...

Ultimately it's the price we pay, I suppose, for choosing to hang out at TRS, while realizing that Ross runs it as an 'open board' (well, as open as one can, within his own defined boundaries) ...

And, while there's little we can do to prevent their showing up to create a stir, there's no rule that says we can't be rude as hell if we have to be, in an effort to get them to shut the hell up ...

I'd post at Steel Dragons, except I have a lot of trouble getting signed on at exco-boards for some reason ... poor zelda -- it took us three tries (with three variations on my ID) before I could get in there ... I've never managed to get my logon at microbe's board to work, either ...

Anyway, I read the comments, and all I could think of as a way to explain the sometimes-frustration that some of us feel is this: you guys have a small board at SD .... when a couple of posters showed up and started annoying you, you banned them from posting, pronto. Your members cheered and moved on. Well TRS is a big wide-open board and Ross does not automatically ban the new and annoying ones ... now -- imagine for a minute if your admin had NOT banned the two that were annoying you guys the other day ... and then multiply that annoyance by 2 or 3 ... and then factor that annoyance in as a regularity - like every couple of weeks or so another brand new batch of annoying people show up and start posting away, being argumentative, with that in-everybody's-face attitude ... I'm talking about coming in loud and opinionated (and often downright obnoxious) ... how would people at SD react to that, if the admin there did NOT ban? You're already mulling it over about Trouble's new board with the presence of the stuff from yet another board ... so I know you're aware of how weird some of this stuff can get ...

It's a frustration. Plain and simple. I'm not the only one who feels it, to be sure, though I don't mind being vocal about it, once in awhile ... most of the time I ignore it - sometimes I speak up ...

Re: my comment about Trouble and the 'harem' thing ... I will never understand how women can accept the things he says to other women. I will never understand how people who are accepting of all of the world's people think that his sock puppet 'Iraqiman' is cute and clever and worth lots of LOL's. If the question is 'do TRS posters realize how they look to 'outsiders', then the question is also relevant to other boards and their posters as well. This board is not unique (except that it is run by Ross instead of someone else). TRB has been around a long time. Going on 6 years now. Obviously Ross is doing something right, in spite of what detractors (which OFTEN include his own posters, by the way ... some of us are probably his biggest critics) may think or say.

Fact is, most folks at most boards don't post for the benefit of 'outsiders', they post for themselves ... and the folks they hang with at a given board. I can't think of a single time that I thought, 'I wonder how this will play at the other boards' before hitting the SUBMIT button ... what may appear to be slams aimed directly at someone else may in fact just be a conversation, as people are trying to sort things out from their own perspective ... it's not always just the 'words', sometimes it's the reason the words were put down in the first place.

TRS isn't perfect and neither is any other board.

I haven't had much time to post on the boards lately, but I do try to check in here at least once a day to see what's happening.

One thing I noticed when Ross opened this board was that it seemed more like a "community" than when he was hosting TRB on queasy e-z. When TRB was on e-z, it was a home board to many, but it seemed more like part of a network of boards. Now that TRS is a stand-alone board, the feel of the board has changed. It's hard to explain - but perhaps some of it has to do with Ross's ability to personalize this board more than he could when he was on e-z. While TRS is different than OTWA or what AW used to be, it still has that certain "feel" of uniqueness that you would find at those other boards.

I think a lot of the "old timers" that followed Ross from e-z to this board have a vested interest in TRS because they were here from the beginning and helped build this place. Even though Ross is the host and made this board possible, it is the posters who ultimately established the atmosphere and gave it its sense of community. TRS has grown into something more than TRB ever was. It's no longer "just" a gossip board. For many it is their home board. And when people call a place home, their expectation is that when new posters come along, they take the time to get to know the members and give the members time to get to know them. It's especially hard to follow board wars that spill over from other boards to this one when most here have no clue about the players.

Ultimately it's Ross's board and it's easy to see that Ross enjoys the diversity of posters from many boards that come here to post. Regardless, there is always going to be the group of posters that were here from the beginning - the ones that have posted together for many years and have established a type of board etiquette – that will be rubbed the wrong way when new posters jump right into the fray and don’t take the time to get to know or understand the history of the core group. And the more newbies that flow in and don’t take the time to get to know the core group, the tighter the core group becomes, making it very difficult for any newbie to become a part of the group. This is not unique to this board. You’ll find it at any established board where a certain group of people have been posting together for a long time.

Everybody is new to TRS. I was a member at TRB for a fair length of time, I just didn't post much because jousting with sexually frustrated old biddies is not my pre-dominant forte'.

I posted here again to respond to the racism thread. I will probably subside to more tolerant boards although it will bring joy to the nastiest bitchs here.

I recommend to all newbies to re-consider coming in here just to be mis-treated by the 'historic members' for not toeing the party line.
