I am currently reading 'Corporate Confidential' by Cynthia Shapiro. In this excellent book, which was a gift from Damon, she details how many procedures in your larger employer's personnel departments have been driven deeply underground and masked by 'acceptable' paperwork.
What does this have to do with racism? Well, read it and see how trying to legislate equality and fairness is doomed to failure. It is also an excellent read on how to ensure the security of your job and how even benign associations can torpedo your promotion.
