What's your favorite chocolate dessert?

I'm supposed to bring a chocolate dessert for a dinner on Saturday. What's your favorite that's also easy? :)

Chocolate-dipped strawberries, if you can get your hands on good-tasting strawberries. (Make sure they are dry before dipping!)

If you don't want to hassle with real chocolate, the SACO Dolci Frutta product is easy to use and doesn't taste bad at all. Many supermarkets carry it, and it usually shows up in the produce section. http://www.sacofoods.com/dolcifrutta.html

Yes, I thought about dipped strawberries. Also thought about warm brownies with nice, good quality vanilla ice cream. I'm getting hungry. :tasty:

Just extra dark chocolate pieces. Yum! Followed by black walnut fudge or brownies.

This Gale Gand recipe for Chocolate Madeleines was in yesterday's Houston Chronicle. It sounds like it would be quick and easy especially since the batter can be made and refrigerated for several days before baking.

Chocolate Madeleines
From Chocolate and Vanilla cookbook

1 stick (8 TBS) unsalted butter - plus 4 TBS softened butter for buttering the molds.

3 large eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 TBS packed dark brown sugar
1 cup cake flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Brush the molds well with the softened butter and put in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to harden the butter.

In a small heavy saucepan, melt the stick of butter over medium heat. Continue to cook until it turns golden brown, being careful not to let it burn. Remove from heat and strain butter through a fine mesh sieve. Set aside.

In a mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip the eggs with the sugars until the mixture is light and thickened, 3 to 5 min. Add the cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Stir on low speed untill combined. Add the vanilla and browned butter and mix just until blended.

To fill molds, put batter into pastry bag and pipe into molds, mounding the batter in the center of the molds but not filling to the edge. Alternatively, you can use a teaspoon to fill molds.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until the madeleines are firm and a little mound is puffed up in the middle.

Best eaten the same day.

The batter can be covered and refrigerated for up to 4 days.

shopping trip to Trader Joe's to get... dark chocolate covered oranges, dark chocolate covered ginger, dark chocolate covered raisins... okay, try some other things that aren't dark chocolate if you must...

or a mix up a Ghirardelli brownie mix... serve warm... They used to sell these mixes 3/box at Sam's Club years ago and other places, of course. I can find them online (not at Ghirardelli's site, though) with 6 mixes/box. These have 3 types of cocoa chips in them so they are slightly different... although I can't imagine that you could go wrong here. I rarely visit the usual grocery stores so I don't know what they might have.

Speaking of Trader Joe's, chocolates and brownie mix...

If you have a Trader Joe's try the Dark Chocolate Espresso candies. They are dark chocolate filled with liquid espresso. Also, their truffle brownie mix is killer!

My neighbor just locked herself out and came over to get her key while I perusing recipes. She reminded me that Morton Downy, Jr.'s daughter opened a chocolate shop down the road last year. She suggested a tray of chocolates and assorted other goodies from there. Which sounds very simple--no work! I'm liking that idea. ;)

Edited to add that if there was more time, I'd have ordered something from Ms. C!!! :(

Re: What's your favorite chocolate dessert?

My dsil has a recipe called "Death By Cocolate". I think it is essentially a very moist brownie with chocolate chips... then covered with a creamy chocolate frosting and curly chocolate shavings...

Actually, I would go with the simpler ideas... :D

I'm not an expresso fan, but I'd try be happy to try out that truffle brownie mix... :tasty:
