Outback Steakhouse.............bread recipe?
We were out of town shopping today and decided to eat at the Outback Steakhouse (it's new) and does anyone know what kind of bread they serve while you are waiting for your meal. It is a dark brown or black bread. We just really loved it and want to know what it is so I can bake some. I know we don't need to eat it but it was soooooo good.

I did a google search for " "outback steakhouse bread" recipe "
and got a few results with recipes that sounded appropriately
Down Under and dark...
Unfortunately I haven't eaten there in years, so I don't remember
their bread.
I do remember that their french onion soup smelled like wet athletic socks.

I don't think I've ever seen a bread recipe with food coloring in it! Somehow seems strange...

Re: Outback Steakhouse.............bread recipe?
Well I made the bread and it was sooooo good, taste just like in the restaurant. I had trouble getting everyone to eat the pot roast and potatoes.
I shaped the loaves but I really need a pan for them to look right. I have one that I use for small loaves of banana bread but I think it only holds 4 and this makes 8 loaves. so I guess I will be doing some looking for a new pan.
I even added the the food coloring for it and it makes the bread a darker brown. Didn't measure it just threw some in.
I did mix it and rise the first hour in the bread machine and then took it out and shaped them and then let it rise for another hour. Only takes 20 minutes too cook. It's great!:)

The food coloring just enhances the dark coloring and since most of us don't have ready access to the carmel (sp?) coloring used in food service, folks have created their own method of "darkening" the bread. I personally would leave out the food coloring. For me it is the taste, not the color that I would be looking for but that doesn't apply to everyone.
