My Best Crockpot Recipes

I just found this forum - GREAT!

I love to cook in my crockpot, here are a few my family asks for frequently:

Easy Crockpot Chicken & Noodles:
2-3 Boneless/skinless breasts (frozen is fine, don't have to thaw)
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 can cheddar cheese soup
black pepper to taste (I use approx. 1/4tsp)
garlic powder to taste (again I use approx. 1/4 tsp)

Put all ingredients into the crockpot, cook on low all day. (mine runs a bit hot & is ready in about 6 hours) If your crockpot tends to run hot put in 1/2 soup can of water too. When done remove chicken, shred with a fork, put back into the crockpot. Microwave (or boil) 1 pkg of noodles, drain, add to crockpot & serve. This is also good with rice instead of noodles.

Easy Chicken Tacos

4 frozen skinless breasts
1 jar of pace (or any salsa)
1 envelope taco mix

Cook on low 4-6 hours, shred chicken with a fork. Add your fave condiments & put in burritos or tacos. WONDERFUL, & very juicy.

Easiest recipe roast:
Put any roast (cheap cuts are fine) into crockpot, pour 1 jar of Pace over it. Cook all day on low. Add cooked rice to the juice for a side dish. Easy & tender.

Crockpot Round Steak
2lbs round steak
1 package onion soup mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 soup can of water

Cook on low all day. The juice (gravy) is good over mashed potatoes or rice.

my crock pot meals always taste like boiled meat and whatever, the texture is usually that of boiled food, what am I doing wrong, I even actually followed the directions exactly a few times, still not good.

Is this normal?

Gabs, no that's not normal. You must realize that you can't put a roast beef in and have it come out medium rare. That is never gonna happen!

Whatever meat you are going to cook, if you want it nice and browned, then you need to brown it first. Really doesn't take long. Just turn on the fire under a pot, add some oil--get it nice and hot and add the meat. Turn on all sides to brown and sear in the juices. Then dump it all in the crock pot.

If you'd like to post one of the recipes you've tried, we can try to trouble-shoot it for you.

What size/how old is your crockpot? The smaller ones tend (IMO) to get to hot. The larger/newer ones with more settings are much better. I started out with a small cheap one & did not have good results at all. We love ours now, & many things are quite tasty prepared that way. It is such an easy way to cook, as well as being much more energy efficient than your oven.

Ok, here's one of my favorite crock pot recipes. I'm a huge fan of the crock pot from the days of having kids in cheerleading, softball, etc. The new programmable crock pots are awesome and I highly recommend them. I have two!!!

Ok -- Beef Tips w/Gravy

2 lbs of Beef Stew Meat
1 Can of Golden Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 Small Can or Jar of sliced mushrooms, drained
1 Medium Onion - sliced
1 Pkg Dry Onion Soup
1 Clove Garlic - minced

Brown the stew meat with the garlic and place in bottom of crock pot. (If you haven't tried those crock pot liners, do try them...they are awesome for quick, easy clean up...it's all about saving time.) Place the sliced onion on top of the browned meat. Then spread the drained mushrooms on top of the onions. Next, mix the dry onion soup with the can of golden cream of mushroom soup, add about a half a cup of water. Pour over top of meat and cook in crock pot on high for about 4 to 6 hours. If you have the programmable crock pot, it's super because it won't overcook and will switch to warm when the desired amount of time has been reached for cooking.

Serve over noodles or rice. Awesome!

Crockpots are great! And even though they do generate a little heat, they're still cooler in the summer than turning on the oven.

I want one of those new ones that you can use the insert on the stove top to brown your meat before you slow cook it.
